Possibly the Best, Quickest, Easiest and Cheapest Way Ever to Install Stylish Drop Caps on Your Web Pages

Drop caps are often used in magazine print publications to help add a little more style and pizazz to a document. A drop cap effect is achieved by making the first letter of the first word in the first paragraph considerably larger than the surrounding text. Drop caps typically take up 3 - 6 vertical lines of space.

Although you can apply drop caps to web pages, until recently, applying a drop cap was arguably more difficult for people who may not consider themselves to be familiar with HTML and CSS web design skills.

However, now there's an easy, flexible way available to non-technical users. Occasionally, we use drop caps here on many pages within InternetTIPS.com.

If you have an InternetTIPS.com Joomla!-powered website:

  • We originally obtained the plug-in version from: DavePreston.me.uk However, if this site is no longer available, contact InternetTIPS.com Customer Support Services
  • You can install the Drop Caps plug-in or Mambot easily using the Mambots installer command in your Joomla! Admin Control Panel.
  • Installation takes about 10 seconds.
  • The Drops Caps plug-in is currently available from the supplier as a free add-on under the General Purpose License (GPL) .
  • You can easily choose which pages you want to display drop caps. By using the following piece of code within the first HTML paragraph tag for a page, you can turn off drop caps for that page.

    Important note: to make drop cap appear on this page and to make the code snippet below display properly while not interfering with this page code, we have added a single space immediately before and after the word "dropcaps". Therefore, when you write your actual code snippet, don't include these two extra spaces:
  • { dropcaps off }
  • On this site, we've used the drop cap colors and style that is applied by default with the drop cap plug-in. However, you can change the color, font and style of drop cap in the Drop Caps Mambots / Plug-in list in minutes.
  • If you change the default settings in the Drop Caps Mambots / Plug-in, you can instantly and automatically update every drop cap used on every page in your site - what an astonishing time saver!
  • The code that drives this particular drop caps plug-in uses CSS technology and so is quite search engine friendly.

If the drop cap effect interests you, let use know and we'll provide a quick tip video clip that shows how to:

  • Install and use the Drop Caps Mambot / Plug-in.
  • Prevent drop caps appearing on a page.
  • Easily change the color, look and style of drop caps throughout an entire website.
