Some years ago, when I was discussing with a friend whether to take a risk and launch InternetTIPS.com and trying to talk myself out of the idea, telling myself about "the risks ...", "what if ...", and so on. Well, here's what happened.
You know how sometimes you can simply be too close to something to see the whole picture properly. Then sometimes, fate seems to take over. Here's an example: my friend blurted out this time-honored, classic question:
Brian, if you knew you could not fail and you already had everything you want in life, what would you be doing right now?
Now I suspect this man probably knows me better than I know myself. Even though I was facing the opposite direction, relaxing and enjoying the remarkable view over the rich, rolling landscape around my home here on the beautiful island of Skye in Scotland, I could easily imagine that his smug (but entirely sincere) facial expression, would already tell me that he knew what I was about to say.
Want to know what my reply was? After a few moments of careful thought, here's what I said:
I'd be having a lot of fun helping people anywhere discover how to build their own dream of getting out of the rat race and creating a life of freedom and prosperity using the web. I would give people the facts, not the spin, and I'd be writing about it for anyone who wants to read my ramblings.
What Would You Do?
So even if I didn't need to work, I'd still be doing what I'm doing now: having a blast working with great clients to create all that goes into an effective e-commerce web site for small businesses and individuals who, like me, simply want a better quality of life.
You see, for an overactive mind like mine, helping people create their own profitable web business using low-cost tools is just so much fun; that's the only explanation I can give. If you think that's strange, well you're probably right: most writers have more than a touch of madness anyway.
The idea of earning a great living on your own terms using the Internet has always appealed to me, even with the dot com shake-down - and I know the prospect also appeals to a lot of other people too.
Internet Tip 1
Here's another reason why InternetTIPS.com was formed: how big the Internet gets also doesn't matter. Why? Welcome to my first Internet tip - which could be the most important insight you may ever come across - listen up: there's always room for UNIQUE and GENUINE organizations that REALLY put their customers first, at any time.
Internet Tip 2
If you've looked into the range of opportunities on the Internet, you're bound to come across certain words and phrases. There's one innocent little word that I've - perhaps unfairly - really come to dislike; yes it's that word: "secret."
My second Internet tips is is a snippet of advice that I've come to realize so few people really understand, so I suppose it could be a "secret" (I know, I know; ouch!).
So to what am I referring? Well, in a nutshell: if you have a hundred Internet businesses all selling similar products and services, how can you separate you from all of them?
Answer: just be yourself, sell yourself, celebrate the YOU in you, maintain absolute integrity and 100% honesty, share yourself, your hopes, your dreams, fears and aspirations, with your customers and clients - and I can almost guarantee, many can become friends as well as clients. And watch you business soar!
The brand of You, when freed and unleashed is your most valuable asset!
What's the worst that can happen? Perhaps someone, anyone, is going have a giggle at your expense. So what! Why not do it anyway?
Internet Tip 3
So why can the approach to which I refer above be so successful?
Perhaps one reason is that being up-front with people is so rare these days that you'll have little competition.
And that is my third tip: be uncommon. Why: you can unleash an unstoppable force that attracts to you what you want!
Are You Ready To Make a Positive Change?
So there you have it: that's my life purpose, and that is why I, and my carefully chosen associates are gathering, standing by, ready to help you - as Joseph Campbell once said - to "Follow your bliss."
In fact, some are top earners on the Net - the quality-driven 5-percenters; the ones who are REALLY having a blast making a great living online. That's their choice, and that's OK - you too if you want to become the next Internet millionaire: my advice: go for it - just always put your customers first.
Internet Tip 4
A few thoughtful Internet entrepreneurs - including our amazing 5-percenters - ignored the "dot com doomsday" effect and simply continued growing their profitable Internet businesses probably with more than few a wry smiles, amid the chaos all around them. Many are still doing just as well in their Internet businesses today. Others are in semi-retirement, just working when they want or between golf sessions.
So what's the key to their success?
How have they done it?
Why do they succeed when most others fail?
... here's another clue: these people think and do things differently to most other folks.

Edmund O'Neill has a nice spin on words here:
If people offer their help or wisdom as you go through life, accept it gratefully. You can learn much from those who have gone before you. But never be afraid or hesitant to step off the accepted path and head off in your own direction, if your heart tells you that it's the right way for you. Always believe that you will ultimately succeed at whatever you do, and never forget the value of persistence, discipline, and determination. You are meant to be whatever you dream of becoming.
